Our Process: Working as a Temporary Candidate

(Page updated: 15 March 2008)

If you would like to register with us for temporary work, you will initially be asked to email a copy of your CV for assessment, together with a short covering letter indicating the kind of work you are looking for, and the dates you are available. It's worth bearing in mind that first impressions count and this initial contact is an important part of our assessment process. A polite, friendly telephone manner and a neat, well presented CV (with no spelling mistakes!) will go a long way.

The whole registration process normally takes no more than an hour. This is an opportunity for you to meet with us and discuss further what sort of work you are looking for, your preferred hours and location. All applicants are asked to fill in an application form and complete some short tests which include Spelling, Numeric, General Ability and Medical Terminology for those looking for Medical Secretarial work. There is no pass or fail mark on these tests, they are just a guide for us to see where your skills lie. There is also a typing test to assess speed and accuracy. Where necessary we offer training in audio typing.

When you make your appointment to come in to see us, you will be asked to bring the following documents with you and also to email a copy of your CV to us if you haven't already done so:

(if you unable to bring the above documents with you, please telephone us and we can let you know which other documents we can accept)

In addition you will need:

When you come in to see us, our administrator will explain how to complete the forms and tests. There is no time limit - you can take as long as you need. Once you have finished them, your designated Consultant will go through your forms and ensure we have all the required information. They will then discuss your skills and experience with you and any assignments that may be suitable. You will be added to a List of Availability based on the dates you give, so do remember to notify your Consultant if your dates change at any time.

When we offer you an assignment, we will give you all the details (name and location of the organisation, duties involved, hourly rate etc) and you can then decide whether to accept it. If you do, you will be sent a timesheet and all the assignment details in writing via email. At the end of each week you will need to ask your supervisor to validate your timesheet by signing off your hours, and the completed timesheet is then faxed back to us. All timesheets must reach our office by 5pm on the Monday following the week you work, in order to activate the transfer of your pay directly into your bank account on the Friday following the week you work.
